Launceston Community Music

The Skiffle Project : Community Music Resources

The Skiffle Project Orchestra is the performing arm of The Skiffle Project, part of Elmsgrove Community Arts CIC. Based in Launceston, we bring together musicians of all ages and abilities to share the joy of music-making with our community.

Our repertoire is a lively mix of skiffle, jug band, blues, folk, early jazz, and roots music – the foot-tapping songs and infectious rhythms that have been bringing people together for over a century. You might hear washboards, ukuleles, guitars, banjos, accordions, bass, harmonicas, and the occasional kazoo, all woven together with plenty of singing and good humour.

The orchestra grew out of our inclusive Launceston Community Music sessions, where complete beginners and experienced players sit side-by-side. We perform with the same spirit: no sheet music required, just enthusiasm, energy, and a willingness to join in. Our aim is simple – to make music accessible, enjoyable, and something everyone can be part of, whether you’re in the band or in the audience.

Look out for us at community festivals, care homes, and local events – and if you find yourself tapping your foot or humming along, you’re halfway to joining us.
