Elmsgrove Community Arts CIC (ECACIC) works with a growing network of local organisations that share our commitment to creativity, inclusion, and community wellbeing. Through these partnerships we co-create events, workshops, and projects that bring people together through music and the arts.
Alongside this collaborative work, we also listen to our community — gathering feedback and ideas to help shape our programmes. Our recent Launceston Community Music survey highlighted strong local demand for inclusive, low-cost music-making opportunities that support wellbeing, build confidence, and strengthen social connection. Together with our partners, we’re turning those findings into action through accessible, community-led arts initiatives.
Launceston Community Music – Survey Key Findings (2025)
As part of ECACIC’s Skiffle Project, we carried out a community survey in Autumn 2025 to explore local interest in inclusive, wellbeing-focused music sessions.
We received 56 responses from people of all ages — from teens to over-70s — showing strong community demand for accessible and affordable opportunities to make music together in Launceston.
Highlights include:
- 68% of respondents want to sing, and almost half are interested in playing guitar, ukulele, or percussion.
- 75% said joining would help them meet people and feel more connected.
- Over 60% felt it would support their mental wellbeing or confidence.
- More than half reported barriers such as anxiety, isolation, or low confidence.
- Weekday evenings were the most popular time for sessions.
- Most respondents could afford up to £5 per session, but several could only attend if sessions remain free or subsidised.
Overall, the results confirm a clear local need for inclusive, low-cost community music that supports wellbeing, builds confidence, and strengthens social connection.
